Entrepreneurs can be segmented into two categories - opportunistic thinkers and strategic thinkers. The definitions of each is:

Opportunistic - One who takes advantage of a circumstance or situation quickly to realize a potential benefit

Strategic - One who uses planned actions to realize a potential result

That isn’t to say that business isn’t conducted using strictly one type of thinking or the other. Generally speaking business owners use a combination of the two. You can be opportunistic and still have a strategic objectives. It’s just that most people who go into business, enter into their chosen market using opportunistic thinking; especially in the Internet Marketing world.

Successfully negotiating the ever changing business landscape requires entrepreneurs to operate strategically to survive for the long term. And strength in your given market will come from strategically executing a sound business plan, rather than solely capitalizing on an opportunity. So which type of entrepreneur are you - Strategic or Opportunistic?
